Aspen Classroom

Course: The Medical-Dental-Legal Update is a 5-day course presented weekly, Monday - Friday.

Classroom Location: AEI’s Aspen classroom is located at Lift One Condominiums in the meeting room just off the lobby.

Winter

Dates: November 24, 2008 - April 10, 2009

Hours: 7:30AM - 9:30AM and 4:00PM - 6:00PM

Summer

Dates: June 22 - August 14, 2008

Hours: 7:30AM - 11:30AM

Directions: Lift One is located at 131 East Durant Avenue in Aspen. From Main Street proceed toward Aspen Mountain to Durant Street. From there proceed right to 131 Durant located at the corner of Durant and Aspen, two blocks from Wagner Park.

Snowmass Classroom

Course: The Medical-Dental-Legal Update is a 5-day course presented weekly, Monday - Friday.

Classroom Location: AEI’s Snowmass classroom is located at Timberline Condominiums in the The Trailside Conference Room.Contact Timberline directly at 800.922.4001 and reference Group Code: AEI for rates and availability.

Timberline Condominiums is a ski-in, ski-out property offering studio 1, 2 and 3 bedroom accommodations, a pool size outdoor hot tub, fitness center with steam room, wireless Internet access, a full service restaurant and more.

Course Objectives

After completing The 2009-10 Medical-Dental-Legal Update you should have acquired the knowledge that will better enable you to:

  • Implement a disclosure and apology program for managing adverse patient outcomes.
  • Identify and avoid malpractice pitfalls which increase the likelihood of suit.
  • Implement practices which will enhance your productivity.
  • Determine whether your practice needs an Electronic Medical Records system.
  • Understand the major new Medicare anti-markup regulations.
  • Identify signs of embezzlement and implement financial controls to avoid it.
  • Understand the legal, business and clinical issues related to cultural competence in the healthcare office.
  • Implement medical charting practices that will reduce malpractice exposure.
  • Better recognize, treat and refer patients who are victims of domestic violence.
  • Employ current cervical cancer screening guidelines and recognize appropriate candidates for the HPV vaccine.
  • Better understand the impact of physical activity on cardiovascular health.
  • Employ appropriate colorectal cancer screening tools and methodologies.
  • Recognize and treat the complications to depression presented by pain.
  • More effectively diagnose and manage patients with HIV/AIDS.
  • Better identify and manage "legally high risk"patients.
